What to Expect with Teen Therapy

Develop a Confident, Self-Assured Teen

It is not abnormal to feel a little uneasy or unsure when preparing for your first teen therapy session. We find it helpful to share what to expect for your first session to help you feel equipped and confident. We usually meet with the teen and their caregiver(s) for their first intake session. We will discuss what is bringing you to seek therapy, process any previous experiences you may have had in therapy, and explore what your goals are for your treatment. This is an opportunity for us to learn more about one another while building up a strong therapeutic alliance. If time allows, we appreciate the time to talk with the teen one on one to gain comfortability and allow them to share freely without their caregiver(s) present. 

Depending on the needs of the teen, our therapists will recommend either individual therapy sessions, individual and family therapy sessions, or individual, family, and parent sessions. We tailor treatment to best suit the needs of your family. We work together in a collaborative manner to reach the treatment goals you identified in your first intake session. After working with us, teens feel more confident, self-assured, and get along better with other people.
