Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life

Our highly trained therapists use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help people who feel consumed by their thoughts and caught up in self-sabotaging behaviors. Our CBT therapists in Louisville help you notice and challenge your automatic negative thoughts and beliefs that fuel anxiety, depression, and other challenges. We understand that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected to one another, and that when we make changes in one area, we can see improvements in the others. Your CBT therapist will gently help you recognize unhelpful patterns and work with you to replace them with healthier, more balanced ways of thinking and coping.

How CBT Works

At Counseling Unconditionally, we explain CBT in a straightforward way: your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected. When you're stuck in negative thinking patterns, like "I'm going to fail," "Nobody likes me," or "Something terrible will happen”, you’ll feel depressed or anxious, which leads you to engage in unhelpful behaviors like avoidance, isolation, or giving up.

CBT helps you break this cycle. Our Louisville CBT therapists help you to notice automatic negative thoughts, identify cognitive distortions (like catastrophizing, black-and-white thinking, or mind-reading), and challenge these thoughts with evidence and more balanced perspectives during sessions. If needed, you'll also learn behavioral strategies like exposure therapy for anxiety, behavioral activation for depression, and problem-solving skills. CBT is structured and goal-oriented, and you'll have the opportunity to practice your new skills between sessions.

What You'll Gain

  • Awareness of negative thought patterns holding you back
  • Skills to challenge and reframe unhelpful thinking
  • Practical techniques to manage anxiety, depression, and stress
  • Behavioral strategies to break cycles keeping you stuck
  • Increased confidence in handling future challenges
  • Tools you can use independently long after therapy ends
